    Русский глагол рассматривать многозначен и относится и к физической деятельности — зрению, и к умственной деятельности человека — пониманию, осмыслению. Глагол не конкретизирует цели и объекта рассмотрения. Английские соответствия, сохраняя это общее значение рассматривания/разглядывания, уточняют, с какой целью что или кто подлежит рассматриванию, и поэтому могут соответствовать не только глаголу рассматривать, но и глаголам разглядывать, проверять, учитывать и т. п.
    1. to examine — рассматривать, тщательно разглядывать, осматривать, проверять, экзаменовать (глагол to examine подчеркивает тщательность проверки для того, чтобы прийти к какому-либо решению; глагол to examine относится как к неодушевленным, так и к одушевленным существительным и в этих случаях соответствует русским осматривать и экзаменовать): to examine an exhibit (a coin) — тщательно рассматривать экспонат (монету); to examine a patient — осматривать больного; to examine a student in mathematics — экзаменовать студента по математике/проверять знания студента по математике I must have my eyes examined. — Мне надо проверить зрение.
